The team with a dream
We are very proud of the technology that we have created, developed and improved over the years. There is no doubt in our minds that the concept of visualizing a patient’s unique arterial network through AR technology won’t change the world forever. But we are very realistic, when we state that none of this would have ever happened without our amazing team and the brains behind it all: our founder Prof. Dr. Benoit Hendrickx. To have an idea is one thing, but to make it a dream and to actually turn it into reality… That’s what’s so admirable about this whole thing. And to do it, with so many different people… People of all ages, nationalities and with so many different talents, personalities and views on life and technology. That’s even more admirable.
We’re not saying that we have made it all the way to the top – because actually, we’re not even close to where we want to be in a few years. But we have come a long way, we have made it this far and we’re very proud of what we have accomplished in this short period. We’re just a start-up with dreams and big plans to change the future… or even better: to become the future! We stand where we are today, because of our innovative concept – but even more so because of our wonderful and talented team.
We can’t thank them enough for the hard work they put in every day to make ARtery 3D the success that it is. And that’s all thanks to our dedicated team. That’s why we would love to introduce them to you in this exclusive blog post. Because they absolutely deserve a place in the spotlight.

Meet: Jörgen Schaffers – Chief Executive Officer
Jörgen has 35 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. He has a broad commercial experience both local and global. He has profound P&L and general management capabilities. He launched multiple assets and has an entrepreneurial spirit to start up new businesses. Jörgen has inspired and engaged many teams from small to big in a multi-cultural/international environment within a global network. In 2022, he joined Augmented Anatomy as CEO with a passionate ambition to expand globally.
And we definitely share that passion with him!
Meet: Thomas Vanden Wyngaerdt – Chief Commercial Officer
Thomas was appointed Chief Commercial Officer in December 2021 and is responsible to oversee marketing and public relations activities alongside a strong focus on expanding the direct sales into new territories. Thomas has a BA in Business Studies from the University College Ghent. He has extensive knowledge and proven success in people and business transformation as well as setting up new divisions internationally.
Meet: Jonas Gomez – Chief Marketing Officer
He is passionate about marketing in technological environments, developing brand strategies and M&A processes for international companies. Jonas has a degree in Marketing and Market Research, and he’s an MBA teacher at Central University of Catalonia (UVic) . He has experience in Marketing strategy, marketing execution. CRM, web design, and technological platforms.
Meet: Stephan Hahn – Computer Vision Engineer
Stephan holds a master’s degree in biomedical engineering, with a specialization in computer vision applied to medical data. He started his career in 2014 as a researcher at ULB, working on machine learning, and image analysis. Now he brings his experience and knowledge in medical data processing at ARtery 3D.
Meet: Anna Riera – Account Manager
Anna is our newest team member. With her 27 years of experience in the medical and pharmaceutical industry, she is the perfect person to introduce ARtery 3D to the Spanish audience. Her main focus will be to convince the right profiles in Spain of the power of our technology. We’re very excited to have her on board!

Meet: Prof. Dr. Benoit Hendrickx – Chairman and Founder
Prof. Dr. Benoit Hendrickx is associate professor in plastic surgery at the Brussels University Hospital (UZ Brussel) and has private practices in Knokke and in Wemmel. He is founder of Augmented Anatomy and member of numerous international societies. He is also the author of many scientific publications about facial anatomy and a demanded speaker on International conferences about facial aesthetics.
Meet: Thierry Haezevoets – Chief Financial Officer
Thierry started his career in Finance (Investment Banking and Equity Research with BNP Paribas Fortis and ING Barings). In 2000, he moved to the MedTech industry, joining IBA, world leader in proton therapy, as VP Business Development and member of their Management Team in Belgium and in San Francisco, CA. Later, he founded Merodis, a leading M&A boutique specialized in IT and Healthcare based in Brussels, Belgium. In 2018, he co-founded Augmented Anatomy and became our Chief of Staff and CFO.
Meet: Dr. Karl Waked – Chief Scientific Officer
Dr. Karl Waked co-founded Augmented Anatomy in 2018. As future plastic surgeon and being familiar with both the medical and technical aspects of the company, he delivers input in both product and business development. As CSO, he is involved in MRI optimization, image processing and validation, leading scientific studies and co-organizing the sales funnel.
Meet: Prof. Dr. Marc Mespreuve – Co-founder
Prof. Dr. Marc Mespreuve is professor in Medical Imaging at the University Hospital of Ghent (UZ Gent) and has a practice at the St.-Maarten Hospital in Mechelen. He co-founded Augmented Anatomy in 2018. As member of numerous international societies and author of many scientific publications – including facial vascular imaging – he is also the designer of the IR-MRI sequences.
